long bowl
Name: Ceremonial Food Bowl
Origin: Hawaiian Islands
Artist: Unknown
Description: This is a full-sized reproduction of a food bowl belonging to King Kahekili of Maui. The figures are supposed to represent a rival chief and chiefess whom he conquered. The original bowl was decorated with the teeth of the king's former enemies, and it is said that he took great delight in humiliating their spirits by using the mouths of the figures as receptacles for his condiments.
