Hanga Te'e Ahu in the distance with its tumbled Moai.

Fallen topknots neat the Ahu.

A ceremonial paina circle with topknots and fallen Moai behind.

Very old fallen Moai at Hanga Te'e. The greenish cast of the stone can be seen in the first one.

Akahanga, former home of the highest chiefs. Notice the holes and fittings in these boat house foundations. They are almost identical to similar ancient stonework in Cusco, Peru.

Good view of a fallen Moai at Akahanga and its topknot.

A piece of coral that once formed part of an eye.

At the southeastern end of the island, in a bay just west of Poike Crater is the very impressive Ahu Tongariki.

The fifteen restored Moai.

They are impressive even from behind.

Gloria and I in front of one of the smaller Moai at Tongariki which was moved a short distance by pulling it from side to side with ropes.

An older Moai lying on the ground between Tongariki and the Rano Raraku quarry in the distance.
