Massive Haleakala Volcano comprises the whole of east Maui and its 10,023 foot height provides abundant water as well as an almost temperate climate zone on its western slope that locals call "Upcountry Maui." The top is often clear in the early morning and covered with clouds in the afternoon. The photo above was taken from about halfway up the mountain.

To get to the top take Haleakala Highway from Kahului.
