PU'U LOA

At The Trailhead

After reaching the parking area for the trailhead you'll see this sign on the left. The number means .7 miles to the main viewing area, which is just over one kilometer. "Pu'u Loa" is usually translated as "Long Hill," and I have to admit that the petroglyphs are distributed in an area that does straddle the end of a long, low hill. However, "Pu'u Loa" can also be translated as "Very Intense Desire," which makes sense when you consider that the glyphs are magical symbols designed to help make things happen.
